Substitute Scene is a female / queer run record label based in Brooklyn, New York. Music, and the music industry, is a substitute scene. We substitute format upon format to suit our needs of convenience, audio quality, and tangibility. We constantly substitute buzzy songs of the moment with new ones, but there is no substitute for that one favorite song. The “substitute scene” in the format world has left very few vinyl presses, meaning that it’s hard for up and coming bands to get their music on vinyl. The goal of Substitute Scene Records is to help independent artists to get their music on vinyl, making sure the music we love can be held.

Substitute Scene wanted a logo and visual identity that resonates with the fluid, ever-evolving nature of music, yet aligns with the minimalist sensibilities characteristic of the genres they publish. The final design encapsulates this through its emphasis on basic symmetry, geometric shapes, and clean lines. The logo embodies a sense of movement and transformation, while maintaining a sleek and uncluttered aesthetic.
